Communication in Politics

Lorien has performed for Regione Lombardia a cognitive study to understand and define the role of grandparents within our society, more specifically the existing bond between grandparents and nephews.

The study has been conducted with CATI telephone interviews, on a sample of 1.000 citizens older than 18 years old, selected by province, sex, age, and town size.

Objective of the market research: investigate the relationship between grandparents and nephews, what do they do when they are together, judgement and important of such a relationship based on the perception of both parts, the economical aid (when present) of grandparents to nephews, aided and overall knowledge of the “Grandparents’ Fest”, and grandparents’ and nephews’ perception of such an event.

Following we report the main highlights arisen:

  • the majority of grandparents has in the care of their nephews a real job; they in fact dedicate about 20 hours per week to the care of their nephews, especially when the parents are working;
  • economical aid is also very important, not only to their nephews but more in general to their children’s family;
  • grandparents thus give a lot, but they also feel greatly gratified by the relationship they have with their nephews.

The “Grandparents’ Fest” comes out to be very well known, especially by grandparents, and the perception that they have of it is of an important celebrative event for the grandparents’ role, and a sign of great respect towards tradition.
